about

When I started making this album, it wasn’t Empty Promises, it wasn’t even an album. Some of these songs were started only a few months after I released “The Life I Love” (2010). As the days went by I continued to do what I love, making music and writing my story, but as the pages turned on the calendar it became a lot harder to stay positive. After a year in the factory, I felt like I was in the same place that I was when I started. Something needed to change - that’s when I applied for Canada’s Got Talent.

It’s hard to believe a two minute YouTube video took me to national television. It was an experience of a lifetime and people could tell I really wanted a career in music. It felt like my whole city was behind me; the newspapers were writing about me and most of the blogs were positive. I was considered a “fan favourite”. Hotels, interviews, contracts - everything seemed so positive and bright.

When it was all over I tried to stay faithful thinking something would happen, that someone would see the potential and soon I’d get that call that my life was going to change. However, before I knew it one year had passed since my first performance on CGT and that’s when I made my song “No1Knows”. It may have been a low budget in-studio performance video but this song is what made me finish this album. The last line in the 3rd verse is “my next CD is titled Empty Promises because that's all you gave to me”.

After I made that statement I had a commitment to myself and I finally knew where I had to take this album. At first it was a collection of beats and lyrics I had made over the last 3 years but as the ideas became songs, the songs became an album, and the album became a story…

Empty Promises is another chapter in my story and proof that eventually all negatives can become a positive.
