When I first started listening to hip hop there weren’t many artist at the time that I could relate to. The music always moved me but the lyrics were what truly allowed me to connect with a song.

I naturally gravitated towards the MC’s that posed as the alternative to the mainstream. The ones who claimed “I’m not this” or “I’m not that” allowed me to say “neither am I”. They created a common ground and suddenly it was a lot easier to get into.

There’s so much knowledge to be shared in Hip Hop, so for this song I took on the role of the old head ‘Custodian’ instead of the teacher and had a lot of fun cleaning up the mess, tackling the modern themes in the genre.
